Over the last few year The Contemplary has been offering courses in Mindful Self-Compassion and Cultivating Compassion Training. For sometime we have recognised the need for alumni of these courses – and people who have discovered compassion meditation practices through religious or secular events – to have the opportunity to meet periodically and practice compassion meditation together. Group practice can both help sustain or rekindle individual practice and provide opportunities for connection and community.
In collaboration with the Centre for a Compassionate Society (CCS) https://centreforacompassionatesociety.net, The Contemplary is pleased to offer monthly compassion meditations on the 3rd Sunday of each month, from 5-6pm, led by Dr Petrina Barson, certified teacher of the Compassion Institute’s Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT). This is an opportunity for CCT alumni and others to experience the rich practices that derive from Tibetan Buddhism but are accessible to anyone keen to develop their natural capacity for compassion into a more reliable resource for self and for the world.
Following the meditation session, for those who wish to stay, the CCS will facilitate an opportunity to write letters to our politicians about issues that relate to compassion: including climate change and refugee rights. This will be an informal gathering where participants can get to know one another and give practical expression to their desire to see compassion embodied in the world.
