My role in The Contemplary could loosely be defined as being to grapple with and articulate the philosophical and moral implications of our work. As I see it, the practice and teaching of meditation is always at risk of being co-opted into a whole range of competing ideologies, and so it is important to house contemplative experience within a morally responsible outlook on the world. So I’m interested in how language, and therefore also politics, fastens onto contemplation.
More concretely, I’m responsible for writing and editing the content we put on our website and in our publications. I’m also responsible for running our program of talks. Outside The Contemplary I work as a tutor, teaching Latin and Ancient Greek. I’m also studying philosophy at The University of Melbourne.
